Hazelbury Bryan

Hazelbury Bryan Methodist Chapel

Partway, H. Bryan, Sturminster Newton, Dorset, DT10 2DP

Hazelbury Bryan is a widespread village consisting of a number of smaller communities.  The nearest town is Sturminster Newton (5 miles).  The population of the village is about 800 but is expanding with new housing.  There is an Anglican Church in Droop, which is historically the centre of the village, a Primary School and Pre School, Village Hall, a Public House and a Recreation Ground including a small play area.  There is also a small shop with a Post Office facility.

The chapel at Hazelbury Bryan was built in 1863 (on this particular site).  The worship area has been refurbished and pews were replaced by chairs adding flexibility to the Chapel’s use.  Adjoining the car parking area is an area of grass adding to the facilities.

We are an active fellowship of all ages.  Family services are normally held at 9.40am on the first Sunday of the month, with evening worship at 6.00pm every week.  Toddler and Youth Clubs (age 3 to 7 and 8 to 11+) are held on Fridays during term time led by the Circuit Youth Worker (Anne Cook) who is a member and worshipper of the chapel and our Deacon, Rebekah-Joy Spinks leads an older Youth Group on a Friday evening,  A craft club meets on the second Tuesday of every month with a varied programme throughout the year (10.00am-12 noon).  Occasional Coffee Mornings are held on Wednesday mornings with income shared with a nominated charity.

There is a Bible study and discussion group on alternate Thursday evenings (7.30pm) and another Bible study group (led by a lay Anglican minister) on alternate Tuesdays (8.00pm at his home).  Both groups cease during Lent (when a Lent course is held in the chapel) and there are holiday breaks in Advent & August.

Our Vision is to attract all age groups to a knowledge of the unconditional love of God through Jesus Christ.  We pray that younger adults will, in particular, be able to enhance the active work within the Chapel and outreach into the local community.
